One of the most remarkable events on Ghanaian entertainment calendar, The Ghana Music Awards UK, cometh to October 7 at the Royal Regency in London as scheduled. Although, it was an electrifying event which saw sea of music heads troop the venue in London, the aftermath has been laced with controversies more so to do with salaries paid to the performers.
To start with, Shatta Wale, who clinched the most awards for the night disclosed that he was paid £80,000 to perform at the event. Prominent media personality, Kwasi Aboagye, has categorically refuted the assertions made by Shatta Wale. According to him, The seasoned broadcaster pointed out that, after covering the costs of obtaining visas, first-class flight tickets, accommodations, and other expenditures for Shatta Wale and his team, the organizers would be unable to provide him with such a substantial payment.
Organizers of the Ghana Music Awards UK have substantiated Shatta Wale’s claim many entertainment critics remain adamant on their position.
DJ Azonto, one of the artistes billed to perform on the night during an interview on Asempa 94.7fm Entertainment Show, waded into the salary saga gracefully as he was quizzed by the host, Obidombie Kweku Adu Kumi.
According to DJ Azonto, his payment and other expenses for the event totaled £60,000. Though he took a swipe at one of the organizers of the show, DJ Allordia, he went on to confirm that Shatta Movement was indeed paid the said amount, £80,000.
